The EDUFREM concept

The education credit.

A payment unit dedicated to education. 1 EDU = 1 euro. You buy them from EDUFREM, you pay your beneficiary's services directly or you transfer them. Traced, secured, guaranteed.

Definition

What is an education credit?

The education credit is a payment unit dedicated to education. 1 EDU = 1 euro. You buy from EDUFREM the number of credits you need (for example 3,000 EDU to cover 3,000 € of tuition) and you choose: either you pay your beneficiary's education services directly, or you transfer the credits to them so they use them themselves.

Whichever path you take, these credits never leave the education perimeter. They are used to settle tuition fees, to fund a study-abroad journey, to pay for training with an approved partner. The beneficiary can also transfer them to a relative to fund their studies. But they can neither be withdrawn at an ATM, nor used to buy anything other than an education service.

The education credit is a new payment format, created by EDUFREM to answer a universal problem: today, money meant for education gets lost on the way. Diaspora families paying for a relative, NGOs distributing scholarships, governments funding programmes, companies running education philanthropy: they all face the same opacity. EDUFREM solves it.

Traced

Every transaction is timestamped, attributed, verifiable from the funder down to the service delivered.

Secured

Funds can only be used to pay education services with approved partners.

Guaranteed

Enforceable French legal framework, possible recourse, regulatory compliance.

Four-step mechanics

How it works, from funder to beneficiary.

  1. 01

    Buy

    The buyer purchases education credits.

Family, donor, foundation, company or public body. The buyer purchases from EDUFREM the number of credits they need and identifies the beneficiary (student, child, employee, scholarship recipient). No specific paperwork: the purchase happens online, governed by EDUFREM's terms of sale.

  2. 02

    Choose

    Pay directly, or transfer.

Two possible paths. Either the buyer pays the beneficiary's education services directly (tuition, registration fees, mobility), or they transfer the credits to the beneficiary's EDUFREM space so they can use them themselves.

  3. 03

    Use

    Credits settle partner services.

Education credits can only be used to pay for education services from approved schools and partners. They can never leave the education perimeter: no cash withdrawal, no free transfer, no purchase outside the ecosystem.

  4. 04

    Measure

The buyer sees how the credits are used.

On every transaction, the buyer accesses detailed reporting: which service, when, for what amount, how many credits consumed. For NGOs and companies, this data feeds directly into donor reports or impact statements.

Differentiation

What the education credit is not.

The education credit is a new format. It resembles nothing that already exists. To understand it well, here is what it is not.

vs

A classic bank

What we are not: EDUFREM is not a bank account. You cannot withdraw cash at an ATM, nor receive your salary on it.

What we are: EDUFREM is a payment infrastructure dedicated to one precise use: education. More rigid than a bank, but infinitely more traceable.

vs

A student payment account

What we are not: EDUFREM is not a student payment account. The beneficiary does not receive an IBAN to use freely.

What we are: EDUFREM is a payment instrument steered by the funder, whose use is contractually confined to education services.

vs

International money transfer

What we are not: EDUFREM is not a general-purpose transfer service like Wise or Western Union. The money never leaves the education perimeter.

What we are: EDUFREM delivers the promise general transfers never keep: the guarantee that money sent actually reaches the school.

vs

Cryptocurrency

What we are not: The education credit is not a speculation token. No fluctuating price, no wallet to manage, no exchange-rate risk for the beneficiary.

What we are: EDUFREM relies on blockchain as a traceability backbone (the public protocols, not speculation). For the user, the experience stays that of a traditional payment, denominated in euros or local currency, operated by regulated institutions.

Technical questions

Technical details.

What is the legal framework of the education credit?

EDUFREM is a French mission-driven company, subject to French law and the regulations applicable to payment instruments. The legal framework rests on EDUFREM's terms of sale and use (accepted at the time of purchase, as on any online store) and on French financial regulations. No ad hoc paperwork to sign. Our DPO can be reached at steve.t@edufrem.com for any GDPR question.

What role does blockchain play in the education credit?

Blockchain serves as a traceability infrastructure, not as a currency. Every education credit is recorded in a tamper-proof ledger that makes it possible to prove at any moment who bought it, for whom, on what date, and where the credit was consumed. It is a technical guarantee that complements the legal framework. For the user, nothing changes: no wallet to manage, no fluctuating price, no speculation. The technology is invisible, the traceability is total.

How is this different from a Campus France blocked account?

A traditional blocked account releases a monthly sum to the beneficiary, with no control over its use. The EDUFREM education credit goes further: funds are released only to pay for an eligible education service, with an approved partner. The buyer keeps full visibility down to the service delivered.

What happens if the beneficiary changes plans?

The redeployment conditions are set out in the initial contract. If the student does not travel, if the institution disappears, if the beneficiary changes: the credit is not lost. Its destination is adjusted according to the agreed rules (another partner institution, another beneficiary in the same family, partial refund based on costs already incurred).

How does EDUFREM make money?

EDUFREM charges the funder a service fee that is transparent and published. On the Mobility service for example: 4% on the secured tuition transfer. EDUFREM takes nothing from the funds themselves once released to the school. No hidden margin on exchange rates, no over-the-counter commissions.

Is my personal data protected?

EDUFREM is subject to French and European GDPR. The beneficiary's and funder's data are never resold. Transactions are encrypted and stored in certified datacenters. EDUFREM's DPO can be reached directly.

Can the education credit be used in every country?

EDUFREM currently operates in France, Cameroon and Senegal. The network of partner schools is expanding gradually. For other countries, the service launches through local partnerships rather than direct establishment (in line with our regulatory perimeter).
